The aim of Typography is not only to be readable but, without the readers acknowledgement, to create a visually satisfying whole.
Early evidence of Typography date back to the Mesopotamian era, with identical characters repeatedly applied to create a uniform cuneiform text (earliest known system of writing).
During the Song Dynasty, when we find the first use of gunpowder, the first type of printing known as movable type was created in China by Bi Sheng. In Asia, movable type lasted till the Qing Dynasty (1640s) since it involved a lot of hard labour. In Europe, during the 1450s Johannes Gutenberg had developed modern movable type and mechanical printing press which started the Printing Revolution. To this day, Gutenberg’s greatest invention almost 600 years ago, is still used in technology.
