PETITION TO BAN PHOTOSHOP ARTICLE

The founders of a Self Esteem Act have decided to take a further approach in setting a campaign that any images that have been notably retoucheed are to be presented with a disclaimer. Their goal is to protect their children from unrealistic standards - Seth and Eva Matlins 2011.

Reading through this daily mail article, I went in with a neautral approach, taking the article in both positive and negative accounts.

Positive - it is essential for teenagers to be given disclaimers of certain images especially when going through puberty when they are most vulnerable, being bombared by such images everyday could cayse them to compare themselves to an unattainble standard.

Mrs Matlins explained: 'We can't ignore that our beauty culture is having wildly negative effects on girls and women.

'Real, serious, and enduring problems occur when we don't recognize that the images and ideals of the human form being presented in the media are setting unrealistic expectations and standards for our country's female population.'

Negative - why should we apply disclaimers on photographs when we are already aware that images have been altered, its not surprise, we are aware of the existence of photoshop, why should we be reminded?

Josh Short, Shebbear, Devon, 4 years agoAt any point did they get the views from the children themselves on this? Clearly they think every person under 21 is a complete imbecile, and that we can't recognize that these types of images have been changed from what they were originally. Yet another stereotype for us teens...
